5 Signs Your DSTV Dish Needs Realignment
15 August 2026
A satellite dish doesn't need to be knocked over to lose its alignment — even small shifts of a few millimetres can noticeably affect your DSTV signal. Here are five signs it might be time for a realignment.
1. Picture Freezes or Pixelates in Light Rain
If your picture struggles even in light drizzle (not just heavy storms), your dish may already be running on a weaker-than-normal signal, with little margin left for bad weather.
2. Signal Strength Reads Low on the Decoder
Check your decoder's signal strength meter (usually under Settings > Dish Setup). Consistently low readings, even in clear weather, point to a positioning problem.
3. You've Had Recent Roof or Building Work
Scaffolding, roof repairs, or even repainting near the dish can accidentally nudge it out of position. If problems started after nearby work, alignment is a likely cause.
4. Strong Winds or Storms Recently
Even a securely mounted dish can shift slightly during severe wind. If your signal quality dropped after a storm, that's a strong clue.
5. New Obstructions Nearby
New trees, extensions, or structures built in the signal path can force a dish to need repositioning to maintain a clear line of sight to the satellite.
Getting It Fixed
Dish alignment isn't a guessing game — it requires a professional signal meter to get the angle exactly right for consistent, weatherproof reception. Our technicians realign dishes to the precise elevation and azimuth needed for the strongest possible signal.
